Childrens Support Society(CSS)

Charity bags from an organisation called CSS childrens support society are dropping through our letter boxes .

This is a scam do not give them anything.

The charity number they quote is 526305 which relates to " SIR NICHOLAS SHIREBURN FOR SCHOOLMASTER" whatever the fuck that means and is no longer registered as a charity.

See http://www.charity-commission.gov.uk/ShowCharity/RegisterOfCharities/RemovedCharityMain.aspx?RegisteredCharityNumber=526305&SubsidiaryNumber=0

Update..... Sir Nicholas Shireburn died in 1717 so theres not much chance of him running anything .

  2. Thank you. I found your posting when I decided to google the charity, as I'd never heard of them. I'm really glad I did, because I've had a massive clear out this weekend of children's clothes and toys, and was just about to bag everything up when I decided to check them out. Thanks again.

  4. If you get any unusual charity bags its always a good idea to check the charity number online.
Some of the established charities like NSPCC use agents who basically give the charity a percentage of the value of the clothes when ragged. The agent takes a large percentage. If you want your goods to be sold and 100% of the proceeeds to benefit the charity then only give to charities that have shops.

  7. I had the bag put through my door today, thought i'd check it out. I'm glad i did now, i dont donate to charity collections that only give a percentage per ton, or those that i think are not genuine

  8. I have had hits on my blog on this subject from all over the country so the scammers are still very much in operation.
I know that several trading standards(including ESCC) are aware of this scam but seem reluctant to do anything for some reason.
I am sure if I operated a similar scam or god forbid sold items per pound I would be in front of the Magistrate so quick my feet wouldnt touch the ground. If you see the vehicle that picks these bags up make a note of the reg no and inform your trading standards. If enough people complain surely they cant ignore it forever.

I believe the scam is operated by Eastern Europeans possibly Poles because I have had many
hits on this post from Poland.

  12. Watch out for THOH or the hand of hope bags as well.

Its not a registered charity but it is very dodgy.

I spoke to a genuine charity shop collector the other day and he said that there are lots of fake
"charities" distributing bags and the result is that the genuine charities are getting less and less returns.

  22. I live in North London and one of these bags came today via Royal Mail!! We have loads of Eastern Europeans here and they do this all the time. All collected goods are sold at local markets. I shall be waiting for them this wednesday (17th Nov) and I will pass their vehicle reg to police and trading standards. Meanwhile, the bag of clothes I sorted out 2 weels ago will go to my local charity shop! Sue, North London

  23. Anon 15/11 (1)-the Police have been informed many times but are obviously busy pulling over innocent motorists in preference to catching thieving scumbags.
Anon 15/11 (2)If the Police wont do anything let me know the reg no/make/model and I will publish it on here

  24. I received a bag this morning 14th Jan. Coincidently the police were here tonite (thought my son had gone missing) and they noticed it, told me about the scam and asked me to get the reg number of the van etc if I could and pass it on to them as they've been trying to catch the ones around the Suffolk area for some time.
    Angel. Suffolk.
